Abstract :
Application-layer multicast (ALM), sometimes called overlay multicast, can help circumvent the limitations in IP multicast and unicast. In this article, we discuss and compare different recovery mechanisms in ALM. The major challenge in loss recovery is how to achieve low residual loss rate with low recovery overhead. As discussed, a promising approach might be a combination of proactive and reactive techniques.
