Abstract :
The theoretical foundation of a procedure leading from the realistic initial data (input and output voltages, power) to the es sential cell waveforms in the continuous conduction mode is presented. The theory reveals which parameters are necessary and in what order they have to be chosen. Normalized graphs relate the initial data and the chosen parameters to the essential waveforms from which the design data are then routinely obtained. The procedure applies to the single-capacitor, as well as to the twin-capacitor, half-bridge configurations. Discontinuous conduction mode waveforms are shown to be a special case of the obtained expressions. The proposed graphoanalytic procedure permits an easy visualization of the design trade-offs.
