Abstract :
The spectral behavior of antiresonant reflecting optical waveguides with hollow core has been investigated. In particular, rectangular-core and arch-shaped-core waveguides have been studied, by means of the finite-element method, providing the dispersion and confinement loss curves in the wavelength range between 600 and 1000 nm. A detailed analysis of the curves has shown that the high losses that were observed at the anticrossing points are associated with the transition from guided to surface modes, which is computed here for the first time, to the authors´ knowledge, in this kind of waveguides. Results are provided for both transverse electric and transverse magnetic polarizations.
