Abstract
The design and testing of a multielement current limiting fuse with ratings of 200 to 600 A continuous current, 2.4 to 38 kV, and fault currents to 25 kA (RMS, sym) are discussed. The device is power assisted; however, it does not utilize an auxiliary electronic triggering means. Operation is triggered by voltage drop or by melting of an element carrying load current. The device can provide effective fault protection at a variety of current levels not previously accommodated. Applications include the paralleling of current-limiting reactors and the protection of underrated systems resulting from cogeneration of source improvements
