Abstract :
A fourth-order monolithic ΣΔ convertor is presented. The circuit shows how it is possible to use a completely continuous-time noise shaper with integrated passive components, moving the sampling function to the output of the filter. The associated uncertainty in the fabricated time constants, which is a serious problem in such a high-order design, is made negligible by means of a self tuning circuit. The convertor is unconditionally stable and recovers immediately from gross overload. The chip is fabricated in 1.6 μm CMOS, and operates from a single 5 V supply
