Abstract
The author relates his introduction to the role of biomedical engineering in human health. The influences of renowned figures on his understanding of the concepts of peace and mutual human respect are also mentioned. Several technological innovations that have produced a great impact on the lifestyle and philosophical attitudes of mankind are cited. Finally, the author mentions the unresolved problems of society, including human poverty in both developing and industrialized countries, and its implications for human health.
