            Abstract :
A hydrocarbon-free alkali laser operating on a mixture of potassium vapour and helium buffer gas has been demonstrated. Hydrocarbon- free alkali lasers can operate at higher temperatures without risk of cell contamination caused by chemical reactions between the alkali atoms and the hydrocarbon buffer gas.
