Abstract :
The CPCM at Dofasco´s Hamilton Works (Canada) began commercial production in December 1991. This plant is one of the most modern of its kind in the world, combining a pickle line with a tandem cold mill for improved productivity and quality. Toshiba Corporation supplied the computer, instrumentation, and electrical or CIE integrated control system for this facility. The control system consists of the three major subsystems communicating over a high-speed LAN (Local Area Network). One of the main features of the CIE integrated control system is that the computer, instrumentation, and electrical control systems are independently allowed efficient and free access to the data running through the LANs. Other features include an integrated controller for control of both instrumentation and electrical systems and a man-machine interface providing the operator access to data from all three systems
