Abstract :
Several legal areas of interest to the practicing engineer are discussed. They are: intellectual property (ideas, copyrights, patents); working papers (confidentiality, employees´ right to copies); working conditions (environment, relations with others, compensation); government regulations (rules defining a qualified engineer); ethics (moral judgments resulting in legal consequences); and forensic engineering (responsibility for design decisions, depositions).<>
