Abstract :
Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) includes stress, reliability, environment, quality and duty-cycle factors, regardless of the application goal. During design, the FMEA primary objectives are to identify failure modes and to mitigate those failures through changes in design, processes, and materials. This column briefly explains the history and importance of FMEA and why entropy is the typical causes of failures during a product´s lifetime.
