Abstract
Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) from infrared-active phonons in quartz is discussed. The scattering is concluded to be from a different region of
space than that previously stated in the literature. The possibility of producing a broadly tunable parametric oscillator via SRS in quartz is viewed with pessimism.
