Abstract :
Nonlinear coefficient measurements for dispersion shifted fibres (DSFs) using the self-phase modulation (SPM) method at 1.55 μm are presented for the first time. The nonlinear Kerr refractive index n2 for various DSFs is found to be ~2.31×10-20 m2/W (±5%) for random polarisation states at 1.55 μm
