  • Abstract
Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are shedding their testbed origins and finding homes in marine science, ecology, offshore oil, and naval operations. The transition is being aided by improved controllers and energy sources. The author discusses the developments of AUV systems and describes some of the AUVs that are in operation. The various applications of AUVs are also discussed.<>
