Manufacturing outsourcing - can you get it right?

To reduce costs, many companies have focused on their core businesses while outsourcing all the rest. In line with this strategy, many well-known brands in the high-tech industry have outsourced most of their manufacturing. Although cost reduction may be a driver to outsource manufacturing, by no means should anyone just look at cost reduction in the definition of an outsourcing strategy. It affects the whole enterprise, its supply chain and its way of operation. This paper discusses the outsourcing framework at Hewlett Packard, and offers some tips for outsourcing.
