Abstract :
Splice loss is monitored with the aid of local injection and detection of blue light. Proper interpretation of the detector signal is a key to the immediate rejection of poor splices. We were able to select splices with a maximum loss of 0.14 dB and an average value of 0.04 dB without a single failure.
