Abstract
Depending on the design of the potline, different types of grounding devices may be used to control the risk to an acceptable level. Additional protective devices or procedures for either device may be required to reduce the risk numbers to acceptable levels. Potline or building design may preclude the use of a fused grounding device. Fault tree analysis technology is a valuable risk assessment tool that can be used to determine which device is most appropriate for a given situation.
