Abstract
The technologies that underlie the effectiveness of 3G - WiFi offloading are in constant development. Not only at the Gateway but also at the Base Station. An important such technology are the Cognitive Radios, which work by intelligently adjusting both signal strength and resource use. In our research, we used an algorithm of Cognitive Radios, known as the Dedicated Sensing Receiver. We found that by using this algorithm, handover blocking probability diminished by 0.44 %. Total sensing time improved by 50 ms and decision time for Vertical Handover Decision Function (VHDF) diminished by 0.018 seconds.
