Abstract :
A transmission-line model for a patch antenna where a half of the patch is loaded with a dispersive material with negative parameters is used to explore the antenna bandwidth characteristics. Possibilities to reduce the antenna size using the phase compensation in the loaded patch are considered. Resonant properties of patch antennas loaded with a dispersive material and with a nondispersive medium having /spl epsi/=-/spl epsi/0,μ=-μ0 are compared with the unloaded case.
