Abstract :
This paper explores uses for and explains the specifications of the ASTM standard, ASTM F2677-08a Standard Specification for Electrically Insulating Aprons Applications. This newer standard was listed in NFPA 70E in 2012 but has no guidance on how and when these aprons and other garments which could be designed using the standard are to be used in the field. Some shocks occur to parts of the body other than the hands and arms and until the publication of this standard the only means to protect the other parts of the body was to use cover up or to “avoid contact”. The idea of PPE for shock for the lower body extremities is explored in this paper.
