Abstract :
Malnutrition/obesity in children is a serious problem globally. While obesity is an issue of concern in developed countries, malnutrition has been a scourge of developing countries. According to UNICEF report, globally 101 million children of age below five years are underweight (leading to low BMI) and therefore are malnourished. In order to tackle this global problem, efficient way of monitoring child´s growth is necessary. Efforts in making a low cost electronic height/weight measurement device for children has been unfruitful till now due to narrow tolerance limit imposed on height. In this paper authors describe an automated measurement unit as well as analyze the height/weight/BMI data obtained from it to understand the implications of error in height and weight on BMI.
