Abstract :
We propose a database access extension to the Elastic-Core Architecture, a mobile core network virtualization architecture. The proposed improvements, i.e., using a combination of a caching scheme and a peer-to-peer type backend database with a specific read/write mode, reduce the state sharing load, enable more effective network site operation, and further enhance availability. We implement the architecture in virtualized IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) servers and compare the proposed caching scheme against the conventional memory synchronization approach. Results show a 12.5% reduction in the CPU usage overhead and network usage is drastically reduced as well. Finally, we prove that the improved Elastic-Core Architecture prevents call loss, achieving 100% service availability for a 20 ms transmission delay among IMS nodes and their state database.
