Abstract
For a long time, microwave engineers have freely borrowed concepts such as image theory and Babinet´s Principle from the older discipline of optics to explain how various kinds of aperture antennas (horns, reflectors, etc.) do their job [C.A. Balanis, 2005]. The time has finally come to return the favor, as optical engineers harness the power of the humble dipole antenna to peek beyond the diffraction limit [S. Johnson, 2007; H. Jones-Bey, 2006; B.M. Deutsch and L. Novotny; 2006; K. Kempa et al., 2007].
