Abstract :
John Weber Carr III was born 16 May 1923 in Durham, NC, and died 9 April 1997 in Philadelphia, PA, USA. He was the founder and first editor of ACM ´Computing Reviews´ and a numerical analyst. His life and career are briefly reviewed. Joan Elisabeth Lowther Clarke Murray was born 24 June 1917 in London, England, and died 4 September 1996 in Headington, Oxfordshire, England. She was an award-winning numismatist and a Bletchicy Park codebreaker. A detailed biography of her work is presented.
