Abstract
This letter determines the dimensional profile of a periodic metallic surface that minimizes the electromagnetic energy scattering of an incident plane-wave back in the incident direction, irrespective of the plane-wave incidence angle. Simple Fourier series is used to describe the surface height variation and it is shown that a small number of design parameters are required to obtain the optimal profile of the surface. Experimental validations are presented and a very good agreement with electromagnetic simulation results is achieved.
