Abstract
A correction is presented in this note for an error which appears in the subject paper by M.B. Pursley and S.D. Sandberg [ibid., vol. 37, pp. 1105-1 112, Nov. 1989]. In addition, attached as an addendum is a proof that a modified version of an algorithm presented in the subject paper produces an optimal packet con6guration for variable-rate coding in meteor-burst communications. The proof of optimality for the original algorithm is quite tedious, and was not included in the subject paper.
