Abstract :
A surge protection system is presented that uses general-purpose communication line protectors on the powering link of fiber-to-the-curb systems. The impulse reset capability of the protectors in this nontypical application is addressed by controls on the powering source and capacitance. Calculations, laboratory tests, and a field test confirm the effectiveness of the approach
