Abstract :
This study analyzes the performance of sensitive ground fault interrupters in the presence of dc. It was found that dc bias drastically reduces the sensitivity of the relay. Theoretical models were developed to explain the behavior of the relays. Experimental measurements proved that the pick-up currents may increase from the standard 5mA threshold to values as large as 40mA.
