Abstract :
Hysteresis and baseline shift in shielded permanent magnet stabilized MR/SAL playback heads are studied via a 3D micromagnetic simulation. The hysteretic behavior is examined by calculation of playback voltages and uniform field transfer curves. The overlap region between the MR/SAL layers and the permanent magnet is seen to have a strong effect on the stability of the device. The amount of hysteresis is studied versus the width of the overlap region and the off-track position of the head
