Abstract :
Some problems concerning the performance of superimposed component directional relays are discussed, and it is shown that the basic directional criteria can be violated due to travelling wave phenomena or for fault occurrence approaching a voltage zero. A relay design is developed using digital signal processing techniques to overcome these problems. Tlhe complete relay is tested using a typical 40OkV transmission line application.
