Abstract
The uplift capacity of ground anchors in dense calcareous soils was examined by full-scale field tests on nine anchors installed at three sites. The results are presented, analyzed, and compared with recent empirical and analytical methods for prediction of anchor capacity and critical bond length. A comparison is made between the behavior of ground anchors and bored piles installed at the same sites. The results indicate that ground anchors can be used successfully to resist large uplift pressures acting on tower foundations and hydraulic structures.
