Abstract
A 1.6- mu m-band optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) that is useful for optical transmission line maintenance is reported. A synchronous Raman fiber amplifier (RFA) is used to increase the dynamic range of the OTDR. Experimental results show that the dynamic range is extended to 25.7 dB with a spatial resolution of 100 m by using the RFA.<>
