Abstract
This paper deals with an experimental method to define an adimensional parameter able to characterize the damping introduced by suitable damping devices for EHV and UHV lines subjected to aeolian vibrations. This adimensional parameter is defined through tests on a laboratory span and allows not only to obtain a comparison between the efficiencies of different damping devices (dampers and spacer-dampers), but also to evaluate whether such damping devices, placed on a real span, are sufficient to keep the strains below the limit values. The proposed method is useful both in the case of a single conductor and in that of a bundle.
