The practicality of LSI for any application is determined by the cost advantage of the LSI products. To obtain low cost LSI devices, production must reach sufficient volumes to make the start-up costs insignificant. These start-up costs include design and debugging, generation of test procedures, paperwork for production control, and the manufacturer´s learning curve for a new product.
