Abstract :
We have measured the magnitude and absolute sign of the nonlinear optical coefficient in AgI to determine the importance of the d - electron contributions to the nonlinearity. The results d_{31} = +20.6 \\times 10^{-9} ESU and d_{33} = -41.1 \\times 10^{-9} ESU are in good agreement with theory.
