Abstract :
Transmission over 192 km of conventional singlemode fibre is achieved using a packaged 1.56 μm DBR laser-electroabsorption modulator transmitter operating at 5.0 Gbit/s. In an optically amplified system experiment, a dispersion penalty less than 0.5 dB at a bit error rate of 10-9 is measured
