Abstract :
Pre-, post- and symmetrical dispersion compensating schemes for 160 km NZDSF+DCF fibre spans are experimentally compared for a 40 Gbit/s optical transmission system using combined EDFA and Raman amplification. Good performance for this 40 Gbit/s system is demonstrated, and it is shown that the symmetrical compensation scheme results in the best performance.
