Scientific grid computing: the first generation

The scientific user´s computing demands are becoming increasingly complex and can benefit from distributed resources, but effectively marshalling these distributed systems often introduces new challenges. The authors describe how researchers can exploit existing distributed grid infrastructure to get meaningful scientific results.
