Abstract :
Previous studies have suggested that the minor field component power in highly birefringent fibers is dramatically greater (20-30 dB) than that of conventional fibers. A detailed theoretical study of this phenomenon is presented which demonstrates that this is not always the case, and furthermore shows for a highly birefringent bowtie fiber that minimum minor component power and maximum birefringence are achievable simultaneously
