Abstract :
The increasing operational requirements in modern naval units imply a growing number of onboard radiating systems and, at the same time, impose increasing requirements for survivability against electromagnetic threats. This paper presents a new and integrated approach for analyzing and controlling the electromagnetic-compatibility (EMC) performance of radiating systems mounted on complex platforms. The platforms (usually ships) are modeled using any computer-aided design (CAD) package. The electromagnetic analysis is based on a hybrid method, combining method-of-moments (MoM) and physical-optics (PO) techniques. The aim of this paper is two-fold: On the one hand, we show the electromagnetic methodology; and on the other, we describe the engineering, focusing on some new and interesting aspects concerning both implementation and numerical results.
