Abstract :
Based on a radiating and balanced mode decomposition it is shown that a planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) with a slot between the feed and shorting pins (differentially slotted PIFA) gives improved impedance control and a slightly wider bandwidth. The bandwidth can be further enhanced using a PIFA that is partially filled with conductor between the feed and shorting pins (differentially filled PIFA) and tuned with a capacitor.
