Abstract :
In this paper we present an alternative model for explaining the discrete quantum absorption of electromagnetic radiation by metal particles when their size diminishes. A simple expression is obtained which accounts for the discrete quantum behaviour when the radii of the particles decreases. Given that no explicit use was made of the Schrodinger equation, it is generalizable in a straight forward manner to sets of metal particles, such as clusters that display a spheric symmetry
