Abstract
The influence of air gap length g on core loss P and excitation S was investigated in model cores including linearized overlap regions. Special emphasis was put on the interaction of core packages with shifted air gap regions. There, normal flux components ΦZ arise into neighbouring, gapless package regions. The resulting planar eddy current losses proved to be proportional to the square of ΦZ. A correlation was established between local distributions of g, ΦZ, P and S
