Abstract :
In an XY antiferromagnet with competing nearest and next-nearest interactions there develops an unexpected Ising-like degeneracy from thermal or dilution-induced fluctuations. The computer solution of local field equations has proven to be very fruitful in getting an insight into these phenomena in a relatively simple way
