Abstract :
Adversarial planning for battle management is discussed. Conventional artificial intelligence planning approaches fail to address problems that arise. These include an unpredictable and dynamic environment; control of several semiautonomous intelligent agents; the need to adjust plans dynamically according to developments during plan execution; and the need to consider the presence of an adversary in devising plans. The requirements imposed on automated planning systems by battle management is examined, a planning approach that meets these requirements is described, and an architecture for investigating adversarial aspects of battle planning is presented
