Abstract :
Methods of representing segmented conductors in 2 dimensions are compared with 3 dimensional calculations, showing good agreement for a simple problem. The calculation of power dissipation is improved for the 2 dimensional approximation by adjustment of the material resistivity to compensate for three dimensional effects. The limitations of the 2 dimensional analysis are demonstrated using, as an example, an induction heating crucible
