Abstract :
The application of artificial intelligence techniques to computer-based support of command and control decisionmaking is reviewed. Examples of artificial intelligence system prototypes for several different types command and control decision problems are presented: ranging from long-term battle planning to real-time weapon firing decision. Military expert systems are viewed as instances of expert systems that operate as intelligent interfaces rather than as stand alone systems. Some of the problems this presents are discussed. A brief discussion of future prospects is also provided.
