            Abstract :
Summary form only given. We present a simple tactile display device for rendering the sensation of compliance when interacting with compliant virtual objects. A spring-loaded platform provides kinesthetic force and two small tilting plates reproduce surface deformations of a compliant object. The tilting plates are moved in conjunction with the contact force applied by user´s finger. Users will also experience isolated tilting-plate feedback when the platform is held stationary using a stop block. This demo shows the capability of the tilting-plate device to render compliance even when it is used by itself on a rigid base, which makes it practical to integrate this compliance display with user interfaces for applications such as video games or robotic surgery.
