Abstract
In order to obtain the optimum design for a transformer, some methods are proposed. The 2-D or axisymmetric finite element analysis is a typical method, which is one of the most convenient and accurate. However, the 3-D finite element analysis is necessary in the design of a complex structure or a high frequency transformer with gap. In this paper, the load characteristics of a coupling transformer are analyzed by the 3-D finite element method with edge elements. The 2-D and 3-D analyzed results are compared with the measured results. From the results, the advantage of the 3-D analysis is proven
