Abstract
A study to determine whether graphics are suitable for displaying information in complex information processing tasks is discussed. Using an information query system capable of responding in either graphical or tabular format, a laboratory experiment was conducted. A method called query tracing was introduced to observe information processing in a decision support system environment. The results indicate that use of graphs simplifies complex information processing tasks
