Abstract
A distributed system for laboratory process monitoring and control is presented. In the course of its development some of the issues involved in producing a real-time system that is highly distributed yet closely cooperating have been explored. The reasoning that led to this design and the resulting characteristics of the system are discussed. In particular, the overall system architecture, the coordinator center, and the remote terminal are described
